Our story: a compass to Kenyan craft
In Swahili, dira means compass and soko means market. DiraSoko exists to point people, in Kenya and around the world, straight to the makers behind Kenya's finest handwork.
Why we started
Kenya is full of extraordinary craft: beaders in the Rift Valley, sisal weavers, Kisii soapstone carvers, leatherworkers and tailors in every town. Too often that work is sold through long chains of middlemen, or lost among mass-produced imports in souvenir shops.
We started DiraSoko to make it simple to buy genuine Kenyan handcrafts online, with honest descriptions, fair dealings with makers, and reliable delivery whether you're in [SHOP CITY] or Chicago.
How we work with makers
- Direct relationships. We source from individual artisans, family workshops and craft groups across Kenya.
- Fair, on-time payment. Makers set their prices with us and are paid promptly for their work.
- Credit where it's due. Product listings will name the maker or workshop and region whenever we can.
- Honest descriptions. We call something "Maasai-style" unless we can confirm the maker's community, and we always state the real materials.
Meet the makers
We'll be introducing the people behind our collections here: their towns, their crafts and the stories behind their pieces. If you're a Kenyan artisan interested in selling through DiraSoko, get in touch on WhatsApp.
Online first, with a shop you can visit
We're an online store at heart, but we also have a shop in [AREA / ESTATE], [SHOP CITY], where customers can pick up orders or see pieces by appointment. Plan a visit or pickup.
